The Scottish National Jazz Orchestra is delighted to open the Ayr Jazz Festival 2014 with their fabulous concert programme, “In the Spirit of Duke and Gershwin” featuring Brian Kellock.

Following their successful tour of USA and Canada last year, the SNJO are thrilled to have the opportunity to play again their award winning concert “In the Spirit of Duke” with a touch of Gershwin’s: Rhapsody in Blue for good measure!

Known as The Duke, Edward Kennedy Ellington is considered amongst the world’s greatest jazz musicians and composers with a musical legacy covering six decades. He reached out and touched a worldwide audience in a fashion that may never be equalled with music that was evocative, emotional and richly textured in mood.

The Scottish National Jazz Orchestra with Brian Kellock on piano, has chosen a fabulous programme of foot tapping favourites, mellow mood and infectious swing to inspire and entertain. Great tunes such as Mood Indigo, Daybreak Express, Single Petal of a Rose or Rockin’ in Rhythm will alternate with less familiar pieces.  This music will be complemented by a shortened version of Tommy Smith’s wonderful arrangement of Rhapsody in Blue.

Voted Best live Concert at last year’s Scottish Jazz Awards, its resultant live album, “In the Spirit of Duke” was nominated and made the top 20 listings of this year’s Scottish Album of the Year Award.  Do not miss this concert  –  guaranteed to offer you an evening not to be missed!
