Over at the Scottish Album of the Year Awards (SAY), people know a thing or two about the burgeoning music scene in Scotland. Certainly, it is vibrant, healthy and diverse, but it’s also extremely productive.

An extraordinary wealth of artistic talent” and “2013 was a particularly strong year for Scottish music”

It is therefore a massive accomplishment for the Scottish National Jazz Orchestras In The Spirit of Duketo be among the nominations on the SAY longlist for Scottish Album of the Year.

This meritorious list represents the amazing quality, enormous output and dynamic range of music from all over Scotland.  An honour simply to be nominated, it is an even greater honour to be chosen to represent the best of jazz in Scotland.  The SNJO is extremely proud of “In the Spirit of Duke”; it was a tremendous labour of love, and enormous pleasure to create.  This highly charged live recording is also 100% proof that the spirit of jazz is very much alive in Scotland, and flourishing in the care of Scotland’s National Jazz Orchestra.
