The SNJO are delighted to invite audiences of all ages to enjoy wonderful new interpretations of two of the most universally popular children’s classics Peter & the Wolf and Carnival of the Animals.
Tommy Smith’s orchestral jazz arrangement of Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf will feature guest Makoto Ozone on piano, whilst the inimitable Tam Dean Burn will narrate newly adapted text by former Scots Makar, Liz Lochhead. The idea that particular instruments are allocated to each character in the story of Peter and the Wolf, and of course Prokofiev’s wonderful melodies will, of course, be lovingly preserved.
Makoto Ozone’s vivid re-imagining of another enchanting piece, Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals for jazz instrumentation will equally delight listeners and bring the composer’s animal cavalcade to life in ways that not even Saint-Saëns himself could possibly have imagined.
NB concert starts at 7.30pm but there will be a free preconcert talk at 6.45pm
