The Scottish National Jazz Orchestra (SNJO) acknowledges the significant contribution made by our founder and former Artistic Director, Professor Tommy Smith OBE. Following his resignation, which was accepted by the SNJO board on Monday 23rd June 2025, we wish to make clear that he is no longer connected with or employed by the SNJO or our associated youth ensemble.

We recognise this is a period of transition. In the months ahead, our board will continue to work closely with stakeholders and supporters as we shape an exciting new chapter for the SNJO’s future.

Central to these plans is a renewed commitment to nurturing young jazz talent through the newly named Scottish National Youth Jazz Orchestra (SNYJO). Alongside the SNJO, this youth ensemble reflects our dedication to fostering the next generation of musicians and creating vibrant opportunities for collaboration with leading voices in global jazz.

We look forward to welcoming you to our upcoming concert series in September, The Music of Weather Report, featuring Alyn Cosker on drums and as Artistic Director for this project.  There are lots of other exciting concerts in the pipeline, so please do keep in touch and watch the website
