Steve HamiltonSteve Hamilton – piano

Born in Aberdeen, Steve grew up in a musical family with father Laurie a constant source of inspiration and invaluable musical information. After much encouragement and tuition/musical guidance from Tommy Smith, Steve applied for and won a scholarship to study Jazz Performance at Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA – a substantial portion of Steve’s study costs were very generously sponsored by rock icon Phil Collins.

Steve graduated in 1995 and spent the next five years in London where he became a long standing member of legendary drummer Bill Bruford’s internationally acclaimed jazz quartet, “Earthworks” that repeatedly toured over twenty countries during a five year period, releasing 3 studio albums and a live DVD on Discipline records.

Since 1995 he has performed/recorded with such notable musicians including: Freddie Hubbard, Ray Charles, Pee Wee Ellis Assembly, Joe Lovano, Kurt Elling, Fred Wesley, Bob Sheppard, John Scofield, Gary Burton, Joe Locke, Van Morrison, Dennis Rollins, Martin Taylor, Carol Kidd, and The NDR Big Band and has appeared on over 40 CDs to date.

Steve recently joined the legendary drummer Billy Cobham’s band and has been touring with Billy throughout Europe.

      Hi Al
here is Steve’s reply to your question

“It was on a Pee Wee Ellis record called “What You Like” from the late 90s.
Pee Wee was Van’s musical director at the time so Van kindly guested on the record which was receded in Germany with one of the national big bands in Hamburg.”
